What is Grapefruit Diet Plan?

The goal of adopting a Grapefruit diet plan is to lose weight from the body by eating grapes in a planned way. The grapefruit includes vitamin C, rich fiber, and carbohydrate. This diet is alike to Mayo Clinic Diet. However, grape diet is not salubrious for all, as it is a kind of very low-calorie diet plans (VLCD’s).

Food Value of Grapefruit Diet Strategy:

The grapefruit (Citrus Paradisi) is high in vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients. Let’s see the food value of grapefruit.

  • The grapefruit is a low-calorie fruit that contains only 42 calories for each 100 g.
  • It is a rich source of dietary insoluble type fiber called pectin that serves as an effective laxative. Dietary fiber protects the mucous membranes of the colon tract by binding the cancer-causing chemicals and toxic substances in the colon tract. Pectin reduces the levels of cholesterol in the blood by reducing the reabsorption process of cholesterol particles in the colon tract.
  • The grapefruit contains high concentrations of vitamin-A (about 1150 IU in each 100g), along with Flavonoid antioxidants, including Naringin, Naringenin, etc. This fruit also contains xanthin, lycopene, lutein, beta-carotene, etc. These compounds bear vision-enhancing antioxidant properties. The whole antioxidant strength of grapefruit is about 1548 µmol TE per 100 g.
  • In a grapefruit diet plan, the vitamin-A keeps the skin as well as the mucus membranes naturally healthy. Furthermore, the vitamin-A and the Flavonoids prevent the risk of cancers, like lung cancer, oral cavity cancer, etc. Lycopene checks the skin damage from the exposure to UV rays and prevents the prostate cancer.
  • The grapefruit is rich in the vitamin-C (about 52% of the total DRI). The Vitamin-C serves as a great natural antioxidant that can hunt the detrimental free radicals and protects our body from the infectious agents. Thus, it contributes to building the connective tissue for the wound healing inside the body. It also absorbs the dietary iron particles in the intestine-tract.
  • Each 100 g of grapefruit contains about 0.135 g of the potassium electrolyte. The Potassium (k) forms the body-cells and diverse body fluids. It counters the sodium effects and maintains the normal level of heart rate as well as blood pressure.
  • The grapefruit contains B-complex vitamins including thiamin, riboflavin, folates, pyridoxine, etc. along with some essential minerals like copper, iron, phosphorus, calcium, etc.
